Celebrating birthdays at the center

My son's birthday is coming up and I'd love to bring a special treat in for his toddler class on that day. This is the first year I'm doing so and I'm wondering what would be best to bring? Nothing too messy for the little ones...nothing nut related... Anyone have good ideas that have gone over well in the past? Interested to hear from teachers, too, on what types of snacks they prefer parents bring!

Re: Celebrating birthdays at the center

I've seen some really great snack ideas done with yogurt! When I was a teacher at a daycare center, I once had a parent bring in the makings for "yogurt sundaes" on her daughter's birthday. Each child got a bowl of yogurt and could add fun, healthy toppings - fruits, granola, raisins, etc. I can't say it wasn't messy, but the kids loved it! Pre-made yogurt parfaits are also a good idea.

I like making a basket of blueberry muffins. They're definitely a treat for the kids at the center, but not as unhealthy and sugary as a batch of cupcakes.

Re: Celebrating birthdays at the center

Don't forget about non-food treats for the class. For my son's birthday, I put together a small goody bag with bubbles, some stickers and a small container of play-doh for each child. I know from talking to other moms, some centers only allow store bought items (with ingredients listed) and some outlaw all food. I would check to see what is specifically allowed first.
