I'm not sure where this came from, but my son is suddenly terrified of getting shots at the doctor. He came home from school talking about it one day and has been bringing it up all the time now whenever there is a mention of a doctor or anything medical. I don't even think he remembers actually getting shots at his appointment last year!

Normally, I'd think this would just blow over, but he actually does have an upcoming physical soon. Any ideas for calming his nerves? This is a badly-timed phase!

I know this isn't the best parenting tip...but what about a little bribery just to get through the appointment? Maybe the promise of a fun treat after the doctor's will help you get through. Then, when the shot is over, you can talk about how it wasn't bad at all.

Not sure how old your son is but I specifically remember going thru this around 5 years old. I was soo afraid of the dr. office. I don't remember this part specifically but I am SURE my mom used bribery! ha! But she kept telling me that it would not hurt and i clearly remember being very upset when it did. i think honesty is best - something like 'it may feel like a little pinch but it only last for a second and then we get to go pick out a treat.' and 'ill be right there with you to help you'.

its a tough one - it may be hard no matter what but i would suggest you push him through it. sometimes it's best to see that it's not really that bad or it can really become a fear. ie; fear of needles.

I had a very similar issue not too long ago where my son was scared of going to the doctor. I got some awesome advice from another member of the community on using role-playing to calm his fears.
