How do I deal with anxiety of letting people hold or be near my baby?

I only have seven weeks to go till my expected due date and find myself more and more nervous about people wanting to hold my baby or be at the hospital when she's born. It's hard to let go of this even though I'm ok with my husband being the first one to hold our baby girl when I think of someone else holding her it creeps me out. How can I get over this and trust others in helping take care of my baby?

First off, congratulations! This must be an exciting time for you! Second, the way your feeling is very normal and probably far more typical than you might realize. Is this your first baby? Many new moms have an overwhelming sense of wanting to protect a new baby. When the time comes, you'll naturally have a good sense of what you are and are not comfortable with when it comes to people holding your baby. It's hard for you to really gauge this until the time comes.

If you do find yourself having issues with this, you can always talk to your doctor. He or she will have strategies for you to try.

Definitely normal to have some feelings like this, especially before your baby has arrived. Your protective mom instincts are kicking in! Don't be too worried. Wait to see how you feel and how this changes once your baby is here and you've settled into a routine. Chances are, you'll be greatful to have some people around to help you a bit during those first few weeks.
